Brazilian waxing—for those curious about hair removal avenues, it's a transformative outcome with a low price tag. Whether you're gearing up for a beach vacation, embracing a new look, or exploring your options, Brazilian waxing offers a smooth finish that lasts way longer than shaving! One of the best parts to waxing is that the hair often grows back finer and less- especially when you are consistent.

I would also like to point out the benefit of waxing to women with ADHD. Struggling with personal care and grooming may be a life long battle but with your estheticians help you will stay on a consistent schedule with one less thing on your mental load- a benefit to anyone really!

This awesome form of personal care does comes with the need for a little preparation and aftercare. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know about becoming a smoother goddess.

What is Brazilian Waxing?

Let's start with the basics. Brazilian waxing involves the removal of hair from the pubic area and usually will extend to between the cheeks if desired always including the bikini line. Unlike shaving, which cuts hair at the skin's surface, waxing removes hair from the root, ensuring a smoother and longer-lasting result.

Preparation is Key

Before booking your appointment, there are a few things to keep in mind to ensure a successful waxing experience:

  1. Hair Length: For the wax to grip effectively, hair should ideally be about a quarter of an inch long. Think a grain of rice! If it's too short, the wax won't grab onto it; if it's too long, trim it down to avoid unnecessary discomfort, just don't go too short as additional trimming may be included with your waxer if necessary.

  2. Day of prep: Make sure your skin is clean and free of lotions or oils on the day of your appointment. This helps the wax adhere better and reduces the risk of irritation. Wear loose fitting soft clothes for comfort after.

  3. In the days or weeks prior: Exfoliating regularly about 2-3x per week will help to get a smoother wax.

  4. Fill out your Intake form & waiver: At my spa we send an intake form via email to ensure your wax appointment doesn't take up more of your time here and most importantly to ensure you are a candidate for your wax! Certain medications like Accutane will make waxing an unsafe option for you. (Let's address that elephant in the room—yes, waxing can be uncomfortable, especially for first-timers. However, choosing a reputable spa with experienced professionals can minimize discomfort. Additionally, taking an over-the-counter pain reliever about 30 minutes before your appointment and not booking for the week prior to menstruation can help take the edge off as well.)

During the Waxing Session

  1. Quick Consultation: Your esthetician will discuss the type of Brazilian waxing you want ( full Brazilian, modified, etc.) and answer any questions you may have. Don't hesitate to communicate your preferences or concerns—We're here to ensure your comfort and satisfaction!

  2. Technique: The esthetician will apply wax to a couple of sections of hair allowing a few seconds for the wax to harden and grip the hairs then the waxer will quickly remove the wax strip and apply some pressure post "pull" for comfort. This is the hard wax technique we use at Holistic Wellbeings. - If your spa uses soft wax they will press a cloth strip over it, and then quickly pull it off.

  3. After: Post-wax, your skin might be slightly red and sensitive. Especially if you are near your cycle. Your esthetician may apply a lotion or oil to calm the skin and reduce redness. We use a soothing post wax serum.

Tips: Avoid exercise, swimming and sexual activity for at least 24 hours! Your follicles are open and there can be an increased risk of infection and irritation.

Something to Note: Your first few waxes MAY leave some hairs behind- this is because your hair grows at different stages and it can take a couple of appointments to achieve the ultimate smooth wax-perience. Once achieved it is important to stay on a consistent schedule so you can have the best long lasting results with less pain as apposed to those not on a schedule.

Maintaining Your Brazilian Wax

To make the most of your waxing investment:

  1. Regular Appointments: Schedule your appointments every 3-5 weeks, as hair typically grows back finer and sparser with repeated waxing.

  2. Exfoliation: To prevent ingrown hairs, gently exfoliate the waxed area 2-3 times a week, starting a few days after your appointment.

  3. Hydration: Keeping your skin hydrated helps maintain its smooth texture and reduces irritation as well as aiding in an effective wax.

Let's wrap it up!

Exfoliate regularly with a body polish or dry brush, moisturize with lotion or oil between waxes, come clean to your appointment, stay consistent, wear loose fitting clothes and keep the area sweat free for 24 hours after.

Brazilian waxing isn't just about hair removal—it's about feeling confident and comfortable in your own skin.
